Brian K. Flakne (Bflakne@flaknethelawyers.com) has been practicing law in Minnesota since 1981. Brian has tried cases in State and Federal Court. He has argued cases to the Minnesota Court of Appeals and represented clients in front of the Minnesota Supreme Court. For many years Brian was a panel member/investigator on the Ethics Committee for the Fourth District, working to ensure that lawyers in this community observed the highest standards of professional behavior
In addition to his private law practice, Brian is General Counsel for Lupe Development Partners, LLC. As General Counsel, Brian directs contract negotiations environmental review, financial underwriting, insurance, and professional and governmental compliance aspects of the business. Brian also represents the firm in matters of jurisprudence, and in various public hearings for permitting, site plan review and licensure. Direct reports in the organization include title, survey and underwriting disciplines. His extensive legal background has been a significant asset as various real estate projects have been developed in the City of Minneapolis. These projects include the Stone Arch Apartment complex (221 units), Marcy Park Apartments (59 units) and Franklin Lofts Condominiums (54 units), Madison Lofts (47 units), Flour Sack Flats (65 units) and many more.
Brian is a life long resident of the Minneapolis area. He graduated from Shattuck School in 1974, the University of Minnesota in 1978 and the University of Minnesota Law School in 1981. Brian is active in the many state and national legal associations and in various community organizations within the City of Burnsville. He is a past member of Shattuck-St. Mary's Board of Trustees, past President of Bloomington Fine Arts Council and past member of Minnesota Council for Arts Education. He is currently the Commissioner of Competitive Soccer for the City of Burnsville and has been a member of Torske Klubben since 1988. Brian's hobbies include upland game hunting, downhill skiing, gardening, and opera. He has been involved in numerous political campaigns at the local and state level. Brian is married to Victoria Rico and they have two children, Kathryn and Cameron. The entire family is active in Faith Covenant Church in Burnsville.
